Although Damned Flame is the standout track, the weirdness of the mad scientist vox really shine on the B-side. Reminds me of one of Bob Dylan's finer, more excitable moments meeting up with H.R. and Hawkwind. I agree that the vocals are weak (it's recorded in 74, you can't expect the angry shouting of punk, but at least we're not confronted with high-pitched vocals either) and indeed those guys played pretty fast for the time.
Yo moatje, alles OK? Besides the lame vocals, the music is straight up hardcore punk fuckin' d-beat shit! I always thought it was strange that no one seemed to be playing like that any earlier than '78 - especially since it's such a simple and sort of natural way to play the guitar (and drums). You can hear hints of that style on some records from the 70's and even the 60's, but the producers always seem to have faded out the tracks just as the band was starting to get really wild. Though, in those instances that I have heard, it is always during the climax of the song that fast riffing and drumming starts to come out. In the example of this BLAST song, the whole composotion is obviously trying to be as fast, loud and dirty as possible (except the vocals) therefore making it musically hardcore.
This is fucking awesome, and people need to hear this! Thanks again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6118487250120595582.post-21031940047111388922010-11-19T16:12:02.963+01:002010-11-19T16:12:02.963+01:00I would like to know too!I would like to know too!Curious Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12574350796481417582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6118487250120595582.post-89377990221020424272010-11-18T20:22:31.067+01:002010-11-18T20:22:31.067+01:00IM-PRE-SSIVE !!!
